Protocols

All of our animals are heritage breeds. Heritage breeds are the breeds of animals that our great grandparents might have raised if they had raised animals. They have long histories of adapting to their environments, instead of being adapted to the needs of industrial agriculture. Heritage breeds live healthier lives, are integral to maintaining biodiversity, and they taste better!

All of our beef, veal, lamb, and goat is 100% grass fed and finished. The animals only eat the lush grasses that are found in our pastures. They are full of healthy omega-3 fats and extra flavorful.

Our pigs and milking cows receive supplemental feed of certified organic grain to ensure that they eat a balanced diet and grow properly. These animals also live on pasture their entire lives and have access to grasses, nuts, and seeds.

Our animals don’t receive any hormones or routine antibiotics. They grow as their natural life cycle dictates. We only use antibiotics if they are needed to save an animal’s life. We prefer to promote health on our farm through other methods such as natural wormer, a kelp supplement, apple cider vinegar, and ample access to minerals.

We don’t use synthetic pesticides or herbicides on our land. This creates a healthier environment for our animals and translates to healthier meat for you.

Our animals eat digest that are free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). None of our products contain GMOs.

We practice regenerative farming to strengthen our soil and benefit the environment more broadly. Our herds graze tightly and rotate between fields often. This encourages the buildup of organic matter in the soil, which in turn may help it to sequester carbon and hold more water. We are proud to continue the history of conservation on this land and combat climate change through our regenerative farming practices.

We treat each one of our animals with the utmost care before sending them to an Animal Welfare Certified processor. Mothers are not separated from their babies until it is developmentally appropriate. We check in on the animals daily and monitor them for any signs of illness or distress. The humane treatment of animals is one of our top priorities.
